Two Thirds of the Way There
I’ve got breakfast and lunch all figured out. Every day. All I need to do is find a solution for dinner.
Taking cues from Oliver Sacks in the Radiolab episode “Choice,” I’ve decided to do my best to content myself to eating the same breakfast and lunch every day. Before coming to this decision I’d some days find myself staring into the cereal cabinet wondering which cereal to eat, or if I should instead eat a piece of toast or a bagel, and spend way too long trying to pick the right choice—and sometimes just give up on breakfast. So now it’s a toasted Pepperidge Farm whole wheat bagel with Bonnie Mamam’s jam spread on top and a glass of orange juice. Just that choice, and as such, going on 3 weeks of the same I’m still as content as ever. And for lunch, a turkey sandwich with cheese, dijon mustard, honey and lettuce on a french roll along with an apple.
Dinner is a bit tougher. But only needing to figure out one meal per day is rather relieving.
I’ve found myself in a state of procrastination for the past year. And am finding that slowly, by eliminating choices from my day to day life I’m getting closer to being as productive as I should be. The trick is making the choice in the first place to always make the same choice.
This is all probably terribly interesting to you, if you’ve continued reading. You’ve probably got a daily schedule; either school or work. I’ve got breakfast and lunch.
